Video: Transformer fire causes major blackout in Provincetown

PROVINCETOWN – A transformer fire in Provincetown late Tuesday afternoon has caused a major blackout in the town. 5,600 customers are without power due to the fire which broke out in the far east end of Bradford Street by the old Michael Shay’s restaurant about 4:50 PM. Because of the situation, Fire Chief Michael Trovato ordered power to be shut off to the entire area until Eversource crews could reach to the scene. The fire caused primary wires to fall causing a construction trailer to catch fire as well.

Bradford Street has been shut down from the 6A to Allerton Street. Officers are on scene to safety ensure residents can safety navigate away if needed.

By 7 p.m., the outage had been trimmed to 129 customers.
