– On Friday at approximately 1:11 a.m., the Yarmouth Police Department and Yarmouth Fire Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash involving two motorcycles. The crash occurred at the intersection of Route 28 and Old Main Street in South Yarmouth.

Upon arrival, officers began immediate treatment of two individuals who had suffered traumatic injuries as a result of the crash.  Despite lifesaving measures, Bruce E. Fernandes, 48, of Lake Shore Drive in Pascoag, Rhode Island, was pronounced dead at Cape Cod Hospital. His passenger was his daughter, Brittany Fernandes, 24 of the same address. She was transported to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment of severe leg and head injuries.

The operator of the other motorcycle was the brother of the deceased, Scott A. Fernandes, 45, of Park Avenue in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. His passenger was Amy Tessier, 25, of Wallum Lake Road in Pascoag, Rhode Island. They were transported to Cape Cod Hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.

A portion of Route 28 and Old Main Street were closed for approximately two hours while members of the Barnstable County Criminal Investigations Bureau and the Yarmouth Police Crash Reconstruction Team completed a preliminary investigation.

According to Yarmouth Police, the initial preliminary investigation indicates that both vehicles were traveling east on Route 28 approaching Old Main Street. As they were turning right onto Old Main Street it appears that one motorcycle struck the curbing on the right-hand side and went out of control, which appears to have caused the other operator to also lose control.
