NANTUCKET – Following a routine structural inspection of the Massasoit Bridge over Long Pond on Nantucket, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation identified several concerns in the bridge’s structural support system.
That has prompted a ban on truck traffic over the span immediately.
Problems identified include a rotted and compressed pile bent that prevents support of bridge beam.
The bridge will be closed to truck traffic until further analysis and repairs are designed.
The truck detour will include Bartlett Farm Road and Red Barn Road.
