willoughbynicholasbBREWSTER – The Brewster Police Department reports that Nicholas Willoughby, 34, (photo at right) from Sandwich was arrested Thursday night in Alma, Arkansas on warrants stemming from several larceny schemes on Cape Cod. Willoughby was wanted by several Cape towns for a variety of larceny charges. He is suspected of scamming businesses and homeowners out of tens of thousands of dollars.

Brewster and Chatham detectives worked with the Massachusetts State Police to narrow Willoughby’s location to one of two hotels in Alma, Arkansas. Police in Arkansas were then able to locate Willoughby and take him into custody.

The Orleans Police Department also provided key information that helped in locating Willoughby. According to Brewster police, it appears that he may have fled the state, after learning that police were looking for him. Police were on his trail in North Carolina when he was spooked by law enforcement looking for him there.

He then resurfaced in Arkansas, where he was taken into custody without incident. He is currently being held in the Crawford County Detention Center, awaiting return to Massachusetts. Alma, Arkansas, is located along Interstate I-40 about 10 miles from the Oklahoma border.
