Cape Cod police departments take part in national ‘Coffee With a Cop’ day

YARMOUTH – Police departments across the country are taking part in National Coffee with a Cop Day.

Coffee with A Cop was launched in Hawthorne, California in 2011, as a result of a brainstorming session.

Members of the Hawthorne Police Department were looking for ways to interact more successfully with the citizens they served each day.

Departments around the Cape, including Yarmouth and Sandwich took part in the event today.

In Yarmouth, Police Chief Frank Frederickson and other officers met people at the Dunkin Donuts on Station Ave.

Community policing has long been considered a framework for establishing trust between the community and the police.

In less than five years, Coffee with a Cop events have been hosted in all 50 states and is one of the most successful community oriented policing programs across the country.

The program has also expanded to outside the United States to Canada, Europe, Australia, and Africa.
