CAPE COD – They weren’t lying when they said “March comes in like a lion” The third major nor’easter since the beginning of the month is predicted for tonight into Tuesday. Blizzard and Coastal Flood Warnings are in effect. Check this article for storm preparation updates from local agencies. The Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee issued the following statement: “The Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee (BCREPC) held a conference call at 4 p.m. March 12, 2018, to discuss the approaching nor’easter.
Citizens should take measures to prepare for another significant weather event with snow, high winds, blizzard conditions, and heavy seas. The storm’s peak intensity is expected to hit around 8 a.m. Tuesday and continue into the afternoon. Travel will be dangerous and people should stay off the roads. Power outages can be expected. Electric utility Eversource will prestage crews around the Cape ahead of the storm.
The BCREPC Multi-Agency Coordination Center (MACC) operated by the Barnstable County All Hazards Incident Management Team will be activated at 6 a.m. Tuesday.
No Regional Emergency Shelter System activation is planned at this time, but the Shelter System plan is in place and ready for activation if necessary.”
PROVINCETOWN – Provincetown Police report that an emergency parking ban will be in effect tonight at 2 AM. If you have a vehicle parked on Commercial Street or on the snow route, please move it before the ban takes effect. The Department of Public Works will be treating the roads. TRURO – In light of the impending storm, Town Offices (Including Town Hall, Community Center and Library) will be closed Tuesday, March 13th.
WELLFLEET – In preparation of the pending snow on Tuesday 3/13 the Town’s Transfer station will be closed on Tuesday. Personnel assigned to the transfer station will be used for snow clearing / treatment. We expect the transfer station will return to normal hours on Wednesday.
CHATHAM – Chatham Town Officials are closing all non-public safety Town offices on Tuesday, March 13, 2018.
HARWICH – Harwich Police report: It’s March 12th and here comes our first significant snowstorm of the winter. It appears that conditions are going to deteriorate quickly. With that said, please stay off of the roads unless it is absolutely necessary.
Last weeks storm caused many trees to come down along with power lines. We saw people disregard barricades placed across the road and in some cases people attempting to drive under trees that had fallen across the road. Absolutely crazy behavior that could have gotten someone seriously injured or killed.
This storm is expected to bring snowfall rates of up to 3 inches an hour. Despite the best efforts of the DPW, traveling conditions will be very poor. Please use some common sense, stay home, and only travel if absolutely necessary. Please do not needlessly endanger yourself and others by venturing out.
The HPD and HFD will be fully staffed and ready to respond to any situation. However, let’s please avoid the avoidable by exercising common sense and good judgement during the storm.
DENNIS – The Dennis Department of Public Works will be out treating and clearing roadways during the day on Tuesday March 13, 2018 so for this reason a parking ban will be in effect from 11 pm Monday, March 12, 2018 until 8 am, Thursday, March 15, 2018. Vehicles parked on roadways may be towed at the owner’s expense.
Private contractors are reminded that it is a violation of Dennis Town Bylaws to push snow from private lots into the roads. Violation of this provision may result in a fine of $100.00 to $300.00.
BOURNE – Bourne Police report a town-wide snow emergency/parking ban is now in effect. Parking is prohibited along all public roads in town until the Superintendent of the DPW lifts the ban. Vehicles that impede the snow removal during a snow emergency are subject to ticketing/towing at the owner’s expense.
