Cape Cod remembers the victims of September 11th, 2001

Cape Cod is pausing to remember the victims of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks. We’ll post additional coverage of events as we get them,

On Sept. 11, 2001, 2,996 individuals were killed, several thousand were injured and the entire world was impacted.

It was a day of unqualified tragedy that we will never forget.

Today all first responding agencies in Provincetown including Police, Fire, EMS, Harbor and Coast Guard stopped to remember that day……..

WELLFLEET – As part of this year’s remembrance the Wellfleet Fire and Police held the annual service at the Wellfleet Fire Department. The fire department also flew the American flag from the ladder truck over the long Pond Road overpass…

BREWSTER
– Bagpiper led presentation of the Colors by Brewster and Orleans Fire and Police Honor Guard, Introduction from Fire Chief Moran, Invocation and prayers, songs from the Brewster Baptist Church Chorale group, Brewster Town officials, Guest Speaker Jack Murphy, Chairman of the Fire Safety Directors Assn of Greater New York and a well known fire service Icon who spent many, many days working at Ground Zero (the “PILE”) recounted a number of personal remembrances evoking emotions in all of those in attendance, and bringing many to tears. As the event came to a close, the sun appeared allowing many to move outdoors and visit the Memorial area at the front of the Fire Station…

HARWICH – 9/11 Remembrance 15th Anniversary, held beginning at 9:58 a.m. (the time that the first – South – WTC Tower fell). Service included playing of Taps, raising and lowering of the flag to half staff, Invocation and Prayer, brief speeches and thanks by Harwich Fire Chief and Police Chief, Signal 5-5-5-5 rung on the fire-bell, signifying a Line of Duty Death to remember the 343 FDNY members killed in the attack at the World Trade Citizen. American flags were placed in the front lawn of the Public Safety complex in the shape of 3-4-3 as well as 15 for the years since that awful day….
