UPDATED: Police say OD led to car striking pole, rolling over in Falmouth


FALMOUTH
– On Satruday at approximately 3:15 PM, members of the Falmouth Police Department and Falmouth Fire Rescue Department (FFRD) responded to a rollover crash on Ter Heun Drive Once on scene, officers found the vehicle on its roof. The vehicle was leaking gas and there was a broken utility pole and electrical wires hanging over the roadway. Officer Leighton and Falmouth Fire Rescue personnel approached and found the operator (and sole occupant) unconscious in the vehicle. They extricated him and administered first aid, including giving him multiple doses of Narcan. He was transported to the Falmouth Hospital by FFRD ambulance with unknown injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Falmouth Police Department. However, the preliminary investigation indicates that the 2000 Toyota 4-Runner was traveling easterly on Ter Heun Dr. when the operator overdosed after using heroin. He lost consciousness and the vehicle traveled over the center line, across the westbound lane, struck the telephone pole then rolled over. The driver was a male in his 40s from the lower cape area.

Eversource is on scene repairing the pole and the road is completely blocked at this time.
