UPDATED: Car vs pole closed section of Route 28 in Falmouth for 16 hours

FALMOUTH
– Early Saturday morning a car struck a utility pole next to the Crabapples Restaurant on Palmer Avenue (Route 28) and the road was closed for over 16 hours while the utility pole was repaired.

Police reported that a 2008 Mercury Mariner was traveling north on Palmer Avenue (Route 28) when it left the roadway, struck a utility pole, rolled over on its left side, and then rolled back upright. The operator was transported to Falmouth Hospital by the Falmouth Fire/Rescue Dept. for a neck injury. The first passenger declined medical treatment and the second passenger, a dog, left with the first passenger. There were no reports that the dog was injured.

Eversource responded and began to replace the utility pole when a water pipe was inadvertently damaged. As a result, the Falmouth Water Department worked with Eversource to complete the project.

The 31-year-old female operator has been charged with Operating Under the Influence of Liquor, Operating to Endanger, a Marked Lanes Violation, and Speeding.
