UPDATED: Woman accused of OUI drugs after car vs utility pole in Yarmouth

YARMOUTHFrom Yarmouth Police: On Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 7:23 PM Yarmouth Police and Firefighters were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash on Buck Island Road in the area of the Yarmouth Water Department. It was reported that a vehicle had struck a utility pole and that there were wires down as well as injuries. The driver of the vehicle was treated and transported to Cape Cod Hospital by Yarmouth Fire Department Ambulance.

Patrol Officer Kevin Antonovitch conducted an investigation that revealed that a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze had been operating west on Buck Island Road, left the roadway on the north side, struck and sheared a utility pole and then came to rest sideways on a guardrail on the north side of Buck Island Road.

Witnesses stated that the vehicle appeared to be operating within the speed limit but began weaving and swerving before crashing into the utility pole.

Eversource responded to the scene to secure and replace the utility pole as well as the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit for photographs of the scene.

Patrol Officer Antonovitch conducted a follow-up investigation at Cape Cod Hospital which revealed that the driver had used heroin prior to the crash.

The driver, identified as Amanda J. Shewan, 27, of Dennis will be summoned for operating under the influence of drugs, operating negligently to endanger, and marked lanes violation.
