Centerville man arrested on Fentanyl charges in Yarmouth

YARMOUTH –  On Friday, November 18, 2016, at 5:00PM, Yarmouth Police Department Proactive Anti-Crime Unit Officer Nicholas Ambrosini observed a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu bearing North Carolina license plates heading north on Route 28 in West Yarmouth operated by David Silva.

Police said Silva is well known to Cape Cod Law Enforcement and was wanted by the United States Marshals Service for a weapons violation.

drugssOfficer Ambrosini stopped the vehicle on Route 28 near the Barnstable town line. Members of the Yarmouth and Barnstable Police Department arrived as back up.

Silva was placed under arrest and he was transported to Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters in West Yarmouth and is being held in a federal correctional facility without bail.

On Monday, November 21, 2016 at 1:00PM, Ambrosini determined where Silva had been staying and went to a West Yarmouth motel.  Officer Ambrosini checked Silva’s motel room and located his personal belongings as well a large baseball sized clear plastic bag containing 91 grams of Fentanyl valued at $10,000.

Fentanyl is a potent, synthetic opioid pain medication with a rapid onset and short duration of action that is estimated to be between 50 and 100 times as potent as morphine.

Fentanyl is used as a recreational drug often mixed with heroin, and this use has led to thousands of overdose deaths each year in recent years all across the United States.
