Chatham Police charge man with OUI after crash through cemetery fence

CHATHAM – On Sunday November 20, 2016 at 4:41pm

Chatham Police and Chatham Fire/Rescue responded to a 911 call Sunday just after 4:30 p.m. for reports of a single vehicle crash on Crowell Rd. near Munson Meeting Way.

On arrival, police officers located a Ford F350 commercial landscaping truck off the road. The truck, which had gone through the intersection of Main St. & Crowell Rd. crashed through a steel rod fence at Seaside Cemetery after leaving the roadway and running over at least one street sign.

The operator, a 28 year old male, was the sole occupant of the truck and was not injured as a result of the crash. Following an investigation, the operator was placed under arrest for numerous motor vehicle violations;

• Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol, 2nd Offense
• Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
• Use of Motor Vehicle without Authority
• Failure to Stay within Marked Lanes
• Failure to Stop for Red Light
• Possession of Open Container

The identity of the operator is not being released at this time, pending his arraignment at Orleans District Court on Monday.

Crowell Rd. remained closed for approximately 1½ hours as Silver Cloud Towing removed the truck.
