CHATHAM – It was Chatham Police to the rescue on Tuesday to help a young deer that was found on the deck of a homeowner.

Just before 1 p.m., a Crows Pond Road resident contacted the Chatham Police Department and Chatham Animal Control Officer.

The person said a small fawn had been on their deck along for some time.

Animal Control Officer Diane Byers and Police Officer Christopher Vardakis (pictured), responded and located the fawn.

Police believe the the fawn’s mother may have been hit by a vehicle in that area, as reported and investigated by Chatham Police on Thursday, June 21.

The fawn was very weak and had difficulty walking.

The animal was taken the residence, and arrangements were made with Cape Wildlife to have the fawn safely transported to a deer-rehabilitation facility located near the Quabbin Reservoir.
