WAREHAM – An 8-year-old boy pulled by divers from under a capsized vessel in Buzzards Bay Wednesday afternoon has died. Sudbury Mass Schools sent a letter to parents announcing the passing of 8-year-old Harry O’Connor. Harry and 11 others were rescued from the water after their vessel capsized in rough seas. Eyewitnesses say the boat appeared to be overloaded.

A private vessel operated by a local commercial diver working in the area and suited with dive gear responded to the scene. The diver was able to enter the water, search the overturned vessel and locate Harry, who was wearing a life jacket. He was brought on board Wareham Marine Unit 1 where medical attention was immediately provided and motored into the Tempest Knob Boat Ramp where awaiting Wareham EMS personnel were staging. He was then MedFlighted from Tobey Hospital to Boston.

The school says grief counselors will be on hand Monday from 1-3 at the Nixon Elementary School in Sudbury where Harry was in 3rd grade.
