EAST DENNIS – The quick thinking of two children may have prevented a major blaze in East Dennis early Tuesday afternoon. When fire alarms sounded and they smelled smoke in their Blackberry Lane residence, the two ran to a neighbor for assistance. Firefighters arrived and discovered a dryer fire that was quickly doused. Crews also ventilated smoke from the residence.

Blackberry Lane was the scene of one of the deadliest fires in Cape Cod history. On October 4th, 2004, a family of two adults and three children perished when flames swept through their duplex just down the street from today’s fire.
