Coard Guard airlifts man from Nantucket

NANTUCKET – A Coast Guard aircrew medevaced a 33-year-old man suffering from injuries to his lower extremities Thursday morning from Nantucket Cottage Hospital on Nantucket.

At around 5 a.m. Coast Guard watchstanders were notified that the injured man was in need of transportation to Massachusetts General Hospital for an advanced level of care.

Civilian medical flights were unable to transport the patient due to low visibility.

At around 5:45 a.m a Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk aircrew from Air Station Cape Cod launched to provide the transport.

The patient was transported via ambulance, along with a nurse from the hospital, to Nantucket Memorial Airport where they were met by the aircrew.

The aircrew safely transferred the patient to Massachusetts General Hospital at around 8 a.m.
