MARTHA”S VINEYARD – A Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod helicopter crew transported a 70-year-old woman experiencing heart trouble Tuesday evening from Martha’s Vineyard.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, the First Coast Guard District command center was notified that a patient at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital needed to be airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital. Other medical flight services were unavailable due to weather conditions.
An Air Station Cape Cod MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched at approximately 8 p.m., bound for Martha’s Vineyard Airport, where the patient was brought by EMS.
The patient was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital and arrived at approximately 10:30 p.m.
“Cases like these are always a team effort,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Glenn Jimenez , an operations specialist at the First Coast Guard District command center. “When the weather is poor and time is limited, we rely on a network of fellow professionals.”
