CHATHAM – A rescue crew aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Albacore assisted a disabled fishing vessel Thursday 10 miles south of Monomoy Island.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England notified the 1st Coast Guard District Command Center late Thursday afternoon stating a 41-foot commercial fishing vessel, Angel Fish, was disabled with three people aboard. Angel Fish was reported to be disabled due to a main diesel engine failure.
Unable to hail any vessels in the area to assist, the Coast Guard Cutter Albacore was diverted from patrol to help.
Arriving on scene at 9:01 p.m., the Albacore crew safely put Angel Fish into tow.
At approximately 11:30 p.m., the Albacore crew handed off the Angel Fish’s tow to the crew aboard the fishing vessel R.M. Chase in Buzzard’s Bay where it was towed to Angel Fish’s homeport in New Bedford.
Both fishing vessels arrived safely in New Bedford Friday morning.
“Our crews worked together with the fisherman on both boats to get them into the harbor safely,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Cody Seevers, the situation unit controller at Sector Southeastern New England. “Having those professional relationships with local mariners is vital to the community and the Coast Guard down here.”
The Coast Guard Cutter Albacore is an 87-foot Patrol Boat homeported in New London, Connecticut.
