Coast Guard assists mariner who suffered head injury

NANTUCKET – A Coast Guard Station Brant Point response boat crew medevaced a 49-year-old man Thursday afternoon after he sustained a head injury while sailing off the coast of Nantucket.

The crew from Station Brant Point responded at around 3 p.m. to the call for assistance. Upon arriving they found the man had a laceration as a result of being struck by the boom on his sailboat.

The crew escorted the sailing vessel back to its mooring ball near Nantucket and then safely brought the patient back to the Coast Guard station where an ambulance was waiting.

The emergency medical services personnel were expected to bring the patient to Nantucket Cottage Hospital for further treatment.
