NANTUCKET – Coast Guard crews are searching for a 36-year-old man last seen kayaking off eastern shore of Nantucket. A 47’ Motor Life Boat from the Brant Point station found his kayak 1.5 nautical miles offshore.An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod is also on scene. An HC-144 Ocean Sentry from Cape Cod and an 87’ Patrol Boat, Cutter Steelhead, are preparing to launch. A second 87’ is standing by.
Update: A first-light search was conducted by the Coast Guard off Nantucket Monday morning. Air assets will continue searching through the day. Two 87’ cutters, Steelhead and Coho, are currently searching. A third 87’ patrol boat, Tybee, is preparing to join the search this morning.
Update: The Coast Guard suspended its search at 11 AM Tuesday morning pending further development (see later story here).
