Coast Guard holding open houses to encourage safe boating as summer approaches

BOSTON – Various open houses are being held at Coast Guard stations throughout New England to kick off National Safe Boating Week, which runs through Friday.

In 2016, 28 paddlecraft users died in Northeast waters. These fatalities were due to capsizing/ falling overboard and not wearing a life jacket.

This year, the Coast Guard and partner agencies are focusing efforts to educate paddlers on how to “have fun, be safe, and paddle smart.”

Sector Southeastern New England will hold their open house next month on June 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Station Cape Cod Canal.
