Coast Guard seeks information on missing boaters

BOSTON – The Coast Guard is seeking information related to the missing boaters from Saturday’s distress call including the possibility of the call being a hoax.

Sector Northern New England responded to a report of 4 people in the water off Kennebunkport, ME on October 5th. After searching 1,500 square nautical miles, the search was suspended on Sunday pending further development.

“We are asking for the public’s help in determining the source of calls and the nature of distress” said Captain Brian LeFebvre, Coast Guard Sector Northern New England commander. “Additional information may aid in our closure of the case and offer a degree of finality to the many rescuers who dedicated their time and effort toward this search effort.”

If you have any information about the distress call, please contact Sector Northern New England at 207-741-5478.

Update: Search for man, 3 kids off coast of Maine suspended
