Coast Guard suspends search off Cape Cod

CHATHAM –  The Coast Guard has suspended a search for a possible mariner in distress after getting a mayday call late Monday night.

Petty Officer Brandon Hillard said a single mayday call was picked up between 8:15 and 8:30 p.m.

That prompted a search between Chatham and Boston that included a helicopter and fixed wing aircraft from Air Station Cape Cod and Coast Guard boats from Chatham and Boston.

The Buzzards Bay Task Force was also involved in the effort.

The search was resumed at daylight on Tuesday, but called off a short time later when nothing was found.

Hillard said no further search would take place unless additional information developed.
