UPDATED: National Coffee with a Cop on Wednesday

Local police departments are participating in National Coffee With A Cop day on Wednesday October 3rd:

PROVINCETOWN – This Wednesday we will join other departments on Cape Cod by participating in this event.

The next installment in our Coffee with a Cop series is scheduled for Wednesday October 03, 2018 at Cumberland Farms, 100 Shankpainter Road from 7:30am to 10:30am.

That’s this Wednesday!

Event host will be our Certified Animal Control Officer Ruthanne Cowing….

Coffee with a Cop is an opportunity for the public to meet with your police officers in a comfortable environment and talk about any subject — all done in an informal setting to discuss community issues and build relationships. Unfortunately, law enforcement interactions may occur during emergencies or situations not conducive to just talking.

We hope that community members will feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns, discuss them or simply get to better know one of your officers.

We view these interactions as a guiding principle in the foundation of community engagement and partnership.

You bring the questions, talk with your officer, and you get a free cup of coffee on us.

On this day, more than 2,000 law enforcement agencies throughout the United States plan to participate in this movement.

“Coffee with A Cop was launched in Hawthorne, California in 2011 when Officers from the Hawthorne Police Department were looking for ways to interact more successfully with the citizens they served each day.

Community policing has long been considered a framework for establishing trust between the community and the police. However, over time the character and composition of our nation’s communities have changed due to shifting demographics, more commuters, and the introduction of different communication methods such as websites and social media.

The Hawthorne Police Department hit upon a simple plan to break through the barriers that have been built over the years–a cup of coffee.

Coffee with a Cop events are now held in all 50 states and is one of the most successful community oriented policing programs across the country. The program has also expanded to outside the Unites States to Canada, Europe, Australia, Africa, and Latin America. The key to Coffee with a Cop’s growing success is that it opens the door for interactions outside of the crisis situations that typically bring law enforcement officers and community members together.”

BOURNE – On Wednesday, October 3, 2018 from 11 AM to 1 PM, McDonald’s at 370 MacArthur Boulevard will be hosting Coffee with a Cop in celebration of National Coffee with a Cop Day. This national one-day event brings local police officers and citizens together – over coffee – to discuss community issues and build relationships in a safe and neutral environment.

Officers from the Bourne Police Department, including Chief Woodside, Lieutenant Esip, Detective Cox and others, will be in attendance. All residents are invited to attend and join the conversation over a FREE cup of coffee, courtesy of McDonalds. This will be a great opportunity to meet some of the officers from the Bourne Police Department, share any of your thoughts, or just say “Hi”.

FALMOUTH – From Falmouth Police: “Coffee with a Cop”, Wednesday, October 3rd from 7 am to 9 am at Dunkin’ Donuts, 4 Sandwich Road. Meet local officers and discuss community issues.

Coffee with a Cop provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the department’s work in Falmouth’s neighborhoods.

We hope that community members will feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know our officers. These interactions are the foundation of community partnerships.
