Continuing storm coverage (evening) steady progress on power restoration

6:00 p.m. update: After peaking at 128,000+, significant progress has been made in restoring power. At this hour 66,000 are still in the dark, mostly in the mid and upper Cape and Orleans. Crews continue to work around the clock to restore service. Again Eversource says full restoration may not be complete until Friday at 11:59 PM. The three shelters remain open.

11:00 p.m. update: Power outages down to 36,000. We’re learning of a close call in Wellfleet earlier today. According to reports, the red Chevy Impala below drove around a barrier on Lower County Road and got hung up on a downed primary power line. The occupants somehow got out of the vehicle without getting electrocuted. Officials left the vehicle there until utility crews could arrive at the scene. You may remember a driver was killed when he drove around a barrier in New Jersey and made contact with a downed line that caused the vehicle to burst into flames. Photos by AAP:
