Updated: Crash closes Route 6 in Eastham

EASTHAM – On Friday, July 17, 2015, at approximately 1:27 p.m., the Eastham Police Department and the Eastham Fire Department responded to 1800 State Highway (Route 6) near Hemenway Road in Eastham for a motor vehicle crash.  Arriving officers found that a silver 2012 Porsche had crashed into a residence.

Investigating Eastham officers determined the vehicle was traveling north when it left the roadway, struck a traffic sign, struck and broke a utility pole, brought down utility wires across the highway, crashed through a fence and finally came to rest against a private residence. The residence sustained foundation and electrical service damage.

Due to the power lines across the roadway, traffic on Route 6 in both directions was diverted to secondary roads for approximately 30 minutes. The operator was identified as Richard Powers, 69, of Hobe Sound, Florida.  Mr. Powers sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.  The crash remains under investigation by Eastham Police.
