Updated: Crash involving ambulance in Osterville under investigation

OSTERVILLE – Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills (COMM) FD reports that they received a call from the Barnstable Police Department for a motor vehicle crash involving an ambulance. Car 321, Engine 305, Ambulance 325, and Ambulance 236 responded to the scene. Car 321 arrived on location to find 5 vehicles involved including the ambulance on Falmouth Road (Route 28) at East Osterville Road. Car 323 and Car 301 responded to the scene. An additional ambulance from COMM was requested and a mutual aid ambulance was requested to the scene. Six patients were transported. Three to Cape Cod Hospital and the other three to Falmouth Hospital. There was minor to moderate damage to the 5 vehicles and moderate front end damage to the aambulance. The crash is being investigated by the Barnstable Police Department.

The ambulance was from the Mashpee Fire Department.

Statement from Barnstablle Police: On 1/13/2020, at approximately 1010 hrs, a Mashpee FD ambulance was transporting patient to CCH on Falmouth Rd, Osterville in the area of East Osterville RD. The operator of the ambulance was using lights and siren. A vehicle pulled out of East Osterville Road in an attempt to make a left turn (eastbound) on Falmouth Rd, striking the left front side of the ambulance. The ambulance then struck three other vehicles before coming to a stop. A total of six individuals were transported by COMM FD, three to CCH and three to Falmouth Hospital.
The ambulance, along with four vehicles and a landscape trailer were towed from the scene. Photographs were taken by the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office. The operator of the vehicle that struck the ambulance was issued a citation for failure to use care in starting. The accident is under investigation by Sgt Andrew McKenna and Patrol Officer John York.
