Updated: Driver cited in crash involving ambulance in Yarmouth

YARMOUTH – Yarmouth Police have cited the driver involved in a crash with an ambulance Monday morning. Police say a witness who was behind the ambulance told them that she was behind the Wellfleet ambulance in the right lane of the exit 7 westbound off ramp approaching the Willow Street intersection.

The witness said that the ambulance which had its lights and siren on had stopped at the intersection then began to proceed through when all of a sudden out of now where a red truck had appeared.

She further stated that the red truck was going very fast as it swerved around a Honda motor vehicle that was stopped at the intersection in the left northbound lane.

The red truck then crashed into the ambulance causing the ambulance to almost flip over.

The red truck then went in front of her car almost colliding into her front end. The truck went up on the island knocking over the street signs where it came to rest.

As a result, Yarmouth Police cited the driver Malcolm H. White Jr. of West Yarmouth for failing to slow at an intersection, failing to yield for an emergency vehicle, making an unsafe lane change and speeding.

The patient in the ambulance was among those transported to Cape Cod Hospital. We’re checking with officials for further details.

A short time later, several vehicles collided on Route 6 eastbound between exits 5 and 6. Heavy rain showers were reported in the area but it was unclear if weather was a factor. No serious injuries were reported. State Police are investigating.
