Crash leads to OUI, firearm charges for Bourne man in Wareham

WAREHAM – Wareham Police report that on Wednesday at about 9:15 PM. they responded to the area of 23 Onset Avenue for a motor vehicle accident. Witnesses said that one of the operators had fled on foot into a wooded area and re-emerged before the arrival of police.

At the scene, officers determined that one of the vehicles had crossed the center line striking another car, causing the accident. Furthermore, it appeared the operator of the vehicle which had caused the accident was exhibiting signs of intoxication. Christopher Ardita, 45, of Bourne was placed under arrest, and the area which he had run to earlier was searched. After a brief search, a fully loaded handgun registered to Ardita was located by Officer Eric Machado. The firearm was confiscated and secured. Ardita was charged with operating under the influence of liquor, operating negligently to endanger, marked lanes violation, improper storage of a firearm, and carrying a firearm while intoxicated He was transported to Wareham Police headquarters where he was held overnight pending arraignment in Wareham District Court.

There were no injuries in the crash.
