CWN coverage of the Blizzard of ’18 part 1 (morning) 65,000 without power

The third major nor’easter in 11 days is affecting the region. This time snow is a major part. Blizzard warnings are in effect and travel is strongly discouraged. Watch this article for continuing coverage (editor’s note: slight change in format-scroll down for latest updates.).

8 AM update: Snow moved in right on schedule. 63 MPH wind in Woods Hole and 55 MPH in Provincetown. 1,250 Eversource customers without power, half of those in Falmouth. Bourne Police were broadcasting live:

8:15 AM update: Power outages up to 7,600, 2,5oo in Falmouth, 2,300 in Bourne and 1,500 in Barnstable. This pole is down on John Parker Road in Falmouth (FPD photo):

9:00 a.m. update: Sandwich Fire called to 56 Grand Oak Drive for a fire in an attached garage of a ranch style home. All occupants safely evacuated. 9,700 without power, 2,600 in Falmouth, 2,100 in Barnstable, 2,100 in Dennis, 1,500 in Mashpee.

9:30 a.m. update: Harwich Police report Route 28 is CLOSED between Riverside Drive and River Road. There are multiple utility poles that are snapped. Power update tally approaching 20,000 mostly on the mid and upper Cape.

10:00 a.m. update: Over 31,000 without power. Largest outages in Barnstable and Dennis. Classic satellite photo showing well defined eye of storm:

10:20 a.m. update: Peak wind gusts of 69 MPH in Wellfleet and Hyannis, 68 in Woods Hole. 36,000 without power largest outages in Barnstable, Dennis, Mashpee and Sandwich. Bourne Police was live again:
