CWN coverage of the major nor’easter Part 1-Fishing boat on rocks, flooding, downed trees, Hyannis crash

CAPE COD – A major nor’easter is affecting the region and will continue into Saturday. Hurricane force wind gusts and major coastal flooding are predicted. Watch this area for continuing coverage of the storm. If you can safely take photos or video please send them to us but remember SAFETY FIRST.

1:15 AM update: Above-Falmouth Police photo of tree down on a car on Davis Straits (Route 28) and Worcester Court with no injury. Eastham Police report Route 6 at Samoset Road closed due to live wires down across highway. Wind gusts to 78 MPH gust in Wellfleet, 77 in Woods Hole, 71 in Marstons Mills. 1:00 PM update: Route 6A in Barnstable and Sandwich is closed due to flooding. Sandwich Firefighters called to the Joslin Lane to rescue people from a flooded vehicle. 2,300 customers without power in Barnstable.

12:45 PM update:
Harwich Police report Route 28 between Pleasant Bay Road in Harwich and Fox Hill Road will be closed due to flooding conditions. The road will be reopened as conditions allow.

12:00 PM update: Route 6A at Brewster/Dennis town line closed with at least two vehicles disabled in the water. Multiple reports of trees down coming in. 800 customers out in Bourne and several other outages being noted.

11:30 AM update: Sandwich Police report large tree down at Cotuit and Sandwich Roads. Wires and utility poles are involved. Sandwich Fire reports Route 6A by Scorton Creek beginning to flood. Brewster Police report Route 6A at Lower Road is closed. Falmouth Police report Lakeview Avenue is closed near the intersection of Gifford Street adjacent to the John Wesley United Methodist Church. A tree is blocking both lanes.


11:AM update: Flooding reported near the Provincetown Inn in the far west end. A large fishing vessel apparently broke loose and is banging against the submerged West End Breakwater (Thank you to Rodrigo Santos for the video). National Park Rangers are closing access to their properties in town. 600 customers without power in Falmouth.

10:30 AM update: Provincetown Police report the far east end of Commercial Street with 3 inches of water on in. That section of road is closed. Falmouth Police report flooding on Sandwich Road at Teaticket Highway and also at Palmer Avenue and Sippewissett Road.

Hyannis Firefighters one the scene of a crash on Independence Drive that sent one vehicle into the woods. A GMC Terrain collided with a Barnstable School Dept. van. Rainfall already approaching 1 inch in the Sandwich area. Wind gusts to nearly 50 MPH. Nearly 100 Eversource customers in Dennis were without power much of the morning but they have recently been restored.
