EAST DENNIS – Around 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon in the area of 636 Airline Road a permit fire got out of control and ran up a steep hillside threatening a house on top of the hill as well as one on the side. Dennis firefighters knocked down the wind-driven flames before they could reach either property.
The fire was declared out after about 45 minutes and crews spent additional time overhauling the scene. During the wet-down phase Captain Don Babineau deployed the 1,000-gallon-per-minute deck gun of Engine 111 to significantly accelerate the process.
A crew from the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) Forest Fire Control arrived and assisted at the scene.
There were no injuries.
Airline Road was shut down in the area until the scene could be cleared.

The aerial video also illustrates what a valuable tool a “drone” can be in providing enhanced situational awareness to incident commanders.
