Dennis Police honor volunteers

VIPs

DENNIS – Dennis Police Chief Peter DiMatteo congratulated the members of the Dennis Police “Volunteers in Policing” (VIPs) for their dedicated volunteer work during calendar year 2015 at an annual ceremony/dinner held on April 27, 2016.

Michael Nasif was honored as the “Volunteer of the Year” for 2015 having logged 103.5 hours of volunteer time. He is pictured at left above with Dennis Police Victim Services Co-Coordinator Kathy Pedini and Dennis Police Volunteer in Police Service Coordinator Patricia McGrail.

The Dennis Volunteers in Policing—now numbering 45—staff an information window in the lobby of the police station; assist officers with a number of community programs; install lock boxes on residents’ homes; and make daily phone calls to residents to assure their well being.

As a group the volunteers logged 2,244 hours in 2015 distributed across the following categories:

  • Greeters:  1458 hours
  • Reassurance Callers: 400 hours
  • Special Projects: 386 hours

Dennis Police Lieutenant Peter Benson said, “The VIPs contribute greatly to the level of service provided to the public by the department and their efforts are greatly appreciated.”
