Dennis Police offer Senior Citizen Police Academy

DENNIS – The Dennis Police Department will be sponsoring a Senior Citizen’s Police Academy starting on Wednesday, October 14th. Classes will be held from 2:00pm to 3:30pm on the following dates at the Dennis Senior Center:

Wednesday, 10/14
Friday, 10/16
Thursday, 10/22
Tuesday, 10/27
Wednesday, 10/28
Tuesday, 11/3
Tuesday, 11/17
Tuesday, 11/24

Topics of instruction will include:

1)    The role of the Police in a free society
2)    Patrol Functions
3)    Investigative Functions
4)    Criminal Law
5)    Use of Force
6)    Other issues related to policing

This is an abbreviated version of the full Citizen’s Police Academy and will allow for participants to gain a general overview into the inner-workings of the police department.  Preference will be given to Dennis residents or to those who work in Dennis.  Applicants will be subject to a criminal background check.

Applications can be obtained at the Dennis Police Station, the Dennis Senior Center, via the department website www.dennispolice.com, or by contacting Officer Ryan Carr of the Community Policing Unit at 774-352-1528.  The deadline for submitting applications is Monday, October 12th, 2015.
