snows corner1snows corner side shotDENNIS PORT – Around 3:50 p.m. Friday there was a two-car crash on Route 28 in front of the Dennis Commons housing complex.

According to reports at the scene, a woman driving a Toyota Camry westbound became distracted by her cell phone just before entering a sweeping curve on Route 28. Her car went off the road onto the grass bordering the roadway on the right. The Toyota knocked over a road sign and passed between a utility pole and guy wire, narrowly missing the pole and an adjacent fire hydrant (see photo at right). The vehicle returned to the roadway and sideswiped an eastbound Mercury Grand Marquis.

The woman driving the Toyota was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by Dennis Rescue with unknown injuries that were not life threatening. The driver and passenger in the Grand Marquis suffered minor injuries from airbag deployment but refused transport.

Route 28 was closed to through traffic for about 20 minutes until the ambulance cleared the scene. One lane was then opened for alternating travel until the damaged cars could be removed.

The Dennis Police Department is investigating.
