Updated: Four boaters and two dogs rescued after vessel takes on water off Chatham

CHATHAM – Good Samaritans rescued four boaters from a sinking vessel 11 miles off Chatham Saturday mornings. The survivors were transferred to a Chatham Harbormaster vessel and brought to shore.

The Harbormaster tells Cape Wide News that at approximately 9:14 AM Saturday, personnel were notified of a vessel sinking 11 miles east of Chatham. The H-27 patrol responded out of the Chatham Fish Pier. While enroute, the distressed vessel was able to light off a hand-held flare to attract the attention of a nearby vessel. All four persons and two dogs were safely disembarked from the sinking vessel minutes prior to it capsizing. At approximately 9:50 H-27 arrived on-scene and transferred all persons and animals to the harbormaster vessel. After a quick evaluation it was determined that there were no injuries or medical emergencies. The H-27 stayed at that location until Tow Boat U.S. Chatham could arrive to salvage the vessel and the survivors were taken back to port.
