UPDATED: Harwich man charged after double stabbing in Hyannis

HYANNIS – From Barnstable Police: “A Harwich man was arrested by Barnstable Police early this morning in connection with a double stabbing in Hyannis. At about 1:20 am Barnstable Police were called to a Yarmouth Road address regarding reports of a stabbing. Officers encountered a 26-year-old male and 26-year-old female who suffered what appeared to be wounds caused by a bladed object. The male sustained several puncture wounds to his abdominal area while the female received laceration wounds to her arms. Both victims are Hyannis residents. Witnesses described the assailant as a black male wearing a white t-shirt, black shorts and driving a black sedan. The suspect and male victim were engaged in an argument in the parking lot when it suddenly turned violent. The female victim attempted to intervene, resulting in the aforementioned injuries. The suspect then fled the area in the black sedan.

Investigation revealed the suspect to be 28-year-old James Metellus of Harwich. Barnstable Police notified Harwich Police of the incident, and they were able to intercept Metellus as he returned to his home. Metellus was detained and later placed under arrest by Barnstable Police. He is charged with Aggravated Assault & Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon and Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon. He is due for arraignment in Barnstable District Court this morning.

Both victims were taken to Cape Cod Hospital where they were treated for their injuries. No further information on their conditions was available.”
