DNA match leads to arrest in 2013 Nantucket rape

adamesgarciajorgeNANTUCKET – Nantucket Police report that investigators from their department have made an arrest in a sexual assault case that occurred on July 5th, 2013 in the area of the Surfside Beach parking lot.

The break in the case came on October 15th of this year when investigators were notified by the Massachusetts State Police Forensic Services Group that a DNA match had linked the suspect to evidence recovered during the investigation.

On Monday, investigators sought an arrest warrant in Nantucket District Court for Jorge Adames-Garcia, a 31-year-old Hispanic male from the Bronx, NY (pictured).

Adames-Garcia became aware of the warrant and turned himself into police along with his attorney on Thursday. He was taken to Nantucket District Court where he was charged with kidnapping, rape, and attempted murder along with other charges.

He was arraigned in court. The Cape & Islands District Attorney’s office will prosecute the case.
