Driver accused of sideswiping school bus leaving scene caught with BB gun, portable breathalyzer

HARWICH
– A man driving a Mazda SUV allegedly sideswiped a school bus Thursday around 11 AM at the intersection of Route 28 and Division Street. The bus was stopped at the traffic lights when the crashed occurred. The man then left the scene on a blown tire and ended up in a driveway on Upper County Road in Dennis Port, just over the Harwich/Dennis line. An off duty Dennis Police Officer working a construction detail detained the man until Harwich Police arrived to take him into custody. He was then taken to Cape Cod Hospital by the Dennis Fire and Rescue under police protection. Reportedly found in his vehicle was a .22 caliber BB gun and a portable breathalyzer. He will be summoned to court at a later date. Nobody on the school bus was injured. Harwich Police are handling the investigation.
