OSTERVILLE – Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills (COMM) FD and Barnstable Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle through a guardrail and on fire. The crash happened shortly before midnight on Main Street at Swift Avenue. Barnstable and Massachusetts State Police arrived on location to find a vehicle on its roof with no occupants inside the vehicle. Vehicle had extensive damage and was approximately 15-20 feet down a steep slope. The engine was out of the vehicle and on fire a few feet away from the vehicle. COMM FD Car 321 and Engine 304 arrived on location. Engine 304 extinguished the fire. During the investigation it was determined there was only one occupant of the vehicle and he had fled the area on foot. Barnstable Police Ptl. Jackson and canine Rokko immediately began a track and located the subject on the ground in the median of Spice Lane. Ambulance 326 and Engine 306 responded to that location and provided patient care. Boston MedFlight was requested to respond. Patient was transported to the Cape Cod Airfield on Race Lane and flown to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Main Street from Swift Avenue to Starboard Lane was closed for approximately 3 hours.
