Driver charged with OUI after Eastham/Orleans rotary crash

EASTHAM – Eastham Police report that at 1:35 a.m. Friday morning, their officers were dispatched to the Route 6 at the Orleans/Eastham Rotary for a motor vehicle crash with possible injuries.

Officers found a red 1999 Volkswagen Jetta sticking out from the guardrail that protects the west side of Smith Lane. Officers from Orleans assisted with the crash. After subsequent investigation, it was determined by officers at the scene that the operator had driven off the roadway and into the guard rail. The Jetta sustained extensive damage. The operator sustained minor injuries and was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by Eastham Fire Rescue personnel.

Through their investigation, officers determined the operator of the vehicle, Michael D. Wilson, 22,  of Harwich was exhibiting evidence of intoxication by alcohol. Once released from Cape Cod Hospital, Wilson was formally charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, operating negligently to endanger and open container of alcohol in a vehicle. Wilson was held overnight at the Eastham Police Department and was arraigned Friday morning in Orleans District Court.
