Falmouth Police investigating fatal crash

FALMOUTH – Falmouth Police report that on Saturday at approximately 1:11 p.m., they, along with Falmouth Fire/Rescue Department, received calls reporting a two-vehicle crash in the area of Mahoney’s Too at 958 East Falmouth Highway (Route 28). Officers arrived and Falmouth Fire Rescue were attempting to extricate the operator of one of the vehicles involved.

Officer Batchelder conducted the preliminary investigation which indicated the following: a 2001 Ford Econoline van, operated by Henry J. Peters Jr., 61, of East Falmouth was traveling west on East Falmouth Highway. A 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV, operated by Marvin G. Rumpler, 90, also of East Falmouth pulled out of the Mahoney’s Too parking lot to enter traffic and was struck broadside by the van.

Henry Peters reported minor injuries. Marvin Rumpler, however,  sustained significant injuries and was transferred to a Boston area hospital by MedFlight where he succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Falmouth Police and Boston Medical Examiner’s Office.
