COTUIT – An East Falmouth man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly forced the vehicle he was riding off the road and into a tree in Cotuit.

It was just after 2 a.m. Thursday when residents notified Barnstable Police of a single-car vs. tree motor vehicle accident in the area of 161 School Street.

Arriving officers found a 30-year-old East Falmouth man lying in the roadway with a back injury and a 33-year-old Cotuit woman sitting on the shoulder of the road, wrapped in a blanket with her 5-year-old daughter.

The mother and daughter suffered only minor injuries.  Inside the vehicle was 33-year-old Christopher Cobb also of East Falmouth, who had suffered a possible leg injury.

The investigation revealed the Cotuit woman was operating a white Chevrolet Trailblazer east on School St. when Cobb, who was in the front passenger seat, reached across the vehicle, grabbed hold of the steering wheel, and caused the vehicle to leave the roadway striking a large tree.

Cobb and the woman and daughter were taken to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment, while the fourth occupant was transported to Falmouth Hospital. Cobb will be summoned for operating after suspension of his driver’s license, operating negligently so as to endanger, and wanton or reckless behavior creating risk of a child.
