Eastham PD & FD present 2018 Nauset Regional Mock Crash

EASTHAM – On Tuesday, the Eastham Fire and Police departments presented the 2018 Nauset Regional Mock Crash, simulating a catastrophic motor vehicle crash due to impaired driving.

Public safety officials from Eastham, in partnership with fire and police personnel from Truro, Wellfleet, Orleans and Brewster staged a mass casualty incident to present to the Nauset High School senior class. Selected students from the senior class played each occupant in the crash, which included numerous injuries, a fatality, and the arrested driver. Nickerson Funeral Home and Silver Cloud Towing also assisted with the exercise

After the scene, students then participated in an assembly which included presentations and discussions of the dangers of impaired driving. The keynote speaker was Mr. James Butcher, a Chief Probation Officer who also shared his experience of personal loss when, in 2007, his daughter Courtney was killed in a motor vehicle crash.

The event is in its 21st year and is coordinated by members of area police and fire departments. The Eastham Fire and Police departments wish to thank all the participating agencies, the Nauset Regional School district, and Mr. Butcher for their continued support of the Mock Crash program. The departments also wish to express their congratulations for the graduating Seniors and wish them all luck in the next chapter of their lives.
