UPDATE: Missing person in Eastham found deceased, foul play not suspected

EASTHAM – On July 15, 2018 at approximately 10:30 AM the Eastham Police and Fire Departments responded to a wooded area near Hemenway Landing for a report of an unconscious person. Responding units determined that the individual was deceased and that he was the subject of the missing person investigation that has been ongoing over that last several days. The investigation into the circumstances of his death is ongoing by the Eastham Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police. Foul play is not suspected. The name of the individual is not being released to allow his family to have some privacy during this difficult time.

Previous story: On Friday, July 13, 2018, the Eastham Police received a report of a missing 47 year old male who was possibly suffering from a medical condition. The individual was missing from the area of Hay Road in Eastham and had left his residence on foot approximately 24 hours prior to the report. The Eastham Police Department along with the Eastham Fire Department, Barnstable County Technical Rescue Team, Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department, Massachusetts State Police Air Wing, Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation and the Truro Police Department K9 Unit thoroughly searched the area but were unable to locate the subject. Throughout the search, there were several reports from citizens and local businesses of possible sightings of the individual but none of these were able to be confirmed.

The subject is described as a 47-year-olm male, 5 foot 9 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark t-shirt, beige or green shorts and sandals. He may have a backpack.

At approximately 9:30pm on Friday evening, the search was suspended due to lack of visibility and due to crews having exhausted all efforts within the search area.

On Saturday morning, July 14, 2018, the Eastham Police Department conducted another search of the individual’s residence and determined that he still had not returned home. The Massachusetts State Police Air Wing was again requested for an aerial search of the Hay Road area as well as other areas within Eastham where the individual had reportedly been seen. The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation also returned to assist with the follow up search. After completing these searches, the subject had still not been located and search efforts were again suspended.

The Eastham Police Department continues to search for the individual both visually and through other investigative avenues. The name of the missing person is not being released at this time at his family’s request.
