Efforts by State Police divers to reach sunken vessel postponed by rough seas

NANTUCKET – A State Police dive team is not expected to return to the site of a sunken fishing boat off Nantucket until Saturday at the earliest.

A spokesman said conditions were too rough on the water Thursday and Friday to send divers down.

The Misty Blue is about 80-to-90 feet below the surface.

The Coast Guard suspended its search on Tuesday night for the two remaining fishermen who are still missing, pending the development of new information.

They’ve been identified as Michael Roberts, 44, and Jonatha Saraiva, 32, by the boat’s owner, Atlantic Cape Fisheries.

The men went missing Monday evening after the Misty Blue sunk approximately 10 miles southeast of Nantucket.

Two other crewmembers were rescued by a passing fishing boat.

The Coast Guard, along with state and local agencies and good Samaritans searched for 42 asset hours saturating a 1,605 square nautical mile area.
