SANDWICH – Firefighters were called to battle an electrical fire at a cottage in Sandwich around 3:45 a.m. The original call reported smoke in the area of 179 Route 6A. Crews discovered the fire in the attic of the cottage on the corner of Lands End Lane.
Mutual aid from surrounding towns was called to assist and cover the Sandwich stations. Route 6A was closed in the area during the fire due to apparatus and hose lines in the street.
No injuries were reported. The Red Cross is providing temporary shelter for the three occupants displaced by the fire.
The State Fire Marshal’s office was called to investigate the exact cause of the fire.
