Expect traffic delays, road closures Sunday for annual Pan Mass Challenge

The annual Pan Mass Bicycle Challenge is this weekend. After stopping at the Mass Maritine Academy Saturday evening. Cyclists will head out early Sunday morning for the trek to Provincetown. Road closures and traffic delays are likely. Some towns have posted specific advisories:

BOURNE – Pan-Mass Challenge will be rolling in to town Saturday between 10 AM and 6 PM. Thousands of bikes will be entering Buzzards Bay from Cranberry Hwy before turning into the MMA from Main St. Expect significant delays if traveling in the area.

Just a reminder, there is a temporary parking ban in effect for all roads on Taylor’s Point. This includes Academy Dr, Wright Ln, Harbor Pl, Bourne Neck Dr, Plaza Ln, Buttermilk Way, Bourne Neck Dr, Salt Works Ln, Bay Dr, Central Pl, and Tower Ln. The ban has been posted and any vehicles parking in violation of the restriction will be ticketed and possibly towed.

YARMOUTH – Nearly 6,000 bicyclists will be riding through Yarmouth Port along Route 6A and Setucket Road between 6 and 8 AM this Sunday morning August 5, 2018, when the riders pedal their way across Cape Cod during the 39th annual Pan-Massachusetts Challenge.

This is a massive amount of extra traffic on Route 6A and all motorists are strongly advised to travel extra carefully through this area as they pass through Yarmouth Port and expect slower than average travel time.

BREWSTER – This Sunday, August 5th, the Cape Cod leg of the 39th annual Pan Mass Challenge will wind its way from Bourne to Provincetown. The event brings thousands of cyclists through Brewster on Satucket Rd, Stony Brook Rd, and Route 6A. Please use extra caution on the roadways 6am-10am this Sunday. Officers will be strategically placed at several major intersections to assist cyclists and motorists.

EASTHAM – The riders enter Eastham via Bridge Rd. and travel down to Herring Brook Rd. where they cross over Massasoit Rd. and then onto Oak Rd. where they enter Rt. 6. One lane will be closed northbound at that intersection and will remain closed down to Nauset Rd. Riders will enter the Cape Cod Rail Trail at Nauset and Railroad Ave. and then continue to Provincetown where the event concludes.

WELLFLEET – The annual Pan Mass Challenge will bring thousands of bike riders across the cape and through Wellfleet on Sunday. Riders will enter town on the bike path, right onto Lecount Hollow Road, left onto Ocean View Drive, left onto Long Pond Road and a right onto Lawrence Road for a rest stop at the elementary school. After a short break they will turn right onto Rt. 6 and continue into Truro.

Officers will be strategically placed to assist with traffic. However with this many cyclist and motorist we do expect congestion and ask all for their patience. Motorist are urged to avoid Long Pond Road. Lawrence Road will be closed in the morning till early afternoon.

TRURO – On Sunday August 5th, 2018 from approximately 9am – 3pm, thousands of Bike Riders will be traveling through Truro as part of the annual PAN MASS CHALLENGE bike Ride. The riders will enter Truro from Wellfleet and turn onto Rose Rd to Collins Rd. They will turn left onto South Pamet Rd to Castle Rd where they will enter Route 6 and continue to Provincetown. There will be a Police Detail assisting the riders as they cross Route 6 so expect delays.

The Cape Cod Regional Motorcycle team in conjunction with the Truro and Provincetown police, will be assisting with traffic and monitoring Route 6 to keep both the riders and the motorists safe.

No Parking on Commercial Street in the metered spaces before the Provincetown Inn.
No Parking in the traffic rotary proximate to the Provincetown Inn.

Winslow Street

No Parking on Winslow Street in the metered spaces between the (VMCC) and Jerome Smith Road.

Veterans Memorial Community Center (VMCC)

No Parking in the Veterans Memorial Community Center (VMCC) parking lot.

VFW Parking Lot

Limited guest house permit parking in the VFW Parking Lot
