YARMOUTH – From Yarmouth Police: On Thursday at 12:58 AM, the Yarmouth Police Department Emergency 911 Center received a report a robbery of a Town Taxi cab driver that had just occurred on Pleasant Street in South Yarmouth.
Yarmouth Police Department 12-8 Shift Patrol Officers Alexander Xiarhos, Jeffrey Rivett, Christopher Eccleston, Matthew Mangano, with assistance from Yarmouth Police Department K9 Patrol Officer Mike Kramer and K9 Satu, were dispatched to the area and conducted an investigation which determined that a female Taxi Driver was robbed of nearly $400.00 by a suspect described as a black male in his 20’s wearing a black tank top and cargo shorts.
The driver explained that she had picked up the man on Rosemary Lane in West Yarmouth and brought him to the Ambassador Inn in South Yarmouth. She further explained the man then asked her to drive him to the Pleasant Street area and then the robbery occurred and he fled on foot.
At approximately 2:42 AM, Patrol Officers Eccleston, Rivett, and Xiarhos responded to room 136 of the Ambassador Inn. While inside the room, Police Officers encountered a male party laying on one of the beds who matched the description of the robbery suspect.
The suspect was detained and placed in handcuffs. He identified himself as Steven Harris and a computer check found that he had three active arrest warrants. Harris was subsequently positively identified as the suspect in the robbery by the victim.
A check of the room located a pair of black cargo pants and a black tank top on the floor next to the bed where Harris was laying. The clothing matched the description given by the victim of what the suspect was wearing. Also located in the room was $316.00 in cash located under the mattress where Harris was laying.
The clothing and cash were seized and entered into evidence.
Harris, 26, of Falmouth was transported to YPD Headquarters for processing. He was charged with armed robbery, unarmed robbery, mayhem, assault and battery while armed with a dangerous weapon, armed assault with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to violate the controlled substance act, and warrant arrest (3 counts).
Bail was set at $5,040.00 cash and Harris was held overnight and transported to the Barnstable District Court this morning.
The Yarmouth Police Department Command Staff commends the strong work of these Police Officers and Emergency 911 Dispatchers which had led to the capture of a robbery suspect and a career violent criminal with a total of 86 prior charges on his Massachusetts adult and juvenile records.
