Falmouth traffic stop leads to seizure of handgun, drugs

FALMOUTH – Falmouth Police report that at about 9:42 PM, police stopped a 2007 Chrysler sedan for speeding. During the traffic stop the officer saw a rear passenger appear to conceal a weapon or contraband under the driver’s seat. A search of the vehicle by officers and a police canine was conducted and a .40 Caliber Glock 22 handgun, heroin, marijuana, and over $300 in cash was seized. In addition, a check on the handgun revealed that it was stolen from Jacksonville, FL. As a result, officers arrested 28-year-old Jarrod M. Alves of New Bedford.

Alves faces preliminary charges of Possession of Heroin, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Illegal Possession of a Firearm, Illegal Possession of Ammunition, Receiving Stolen Property (Firearm), and other firearm-related offenses. He will also be charged under the Armed Career Criminal Act for persons previously convicted of violent crimes or serious drug offenses. The 34-year-old female operator will also be summonsed for illegal possession of drugs.

A Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office canine team assisted with the search and arrest.
